Wart/ corn removal

We at times experience thickening of skin on the soles which may either be of no trouble or cause severe pain , which is very much disproportionate to the size of the lesion. It can be either warts or corn or callus. They closely mimic each other but actually they are quite different.

What’s a Corn?

A corn is a small, thickened, circular area of skin with a hard core. It usually forms on bony areas like toes or the soles of the feet where pressure is concentrated. It causes pain and discomfort when pressure is applied.

What’s a Callus?

A callus is a larger, more spread-out thickened area of skin that forms due to repeated friction or pressure. Unlike corn, calluses are painless and commonly appear on the palms, soles, or heels as yellowish, rough thickened skin.

What’s the treatment of Corn and Callus ?

Addressing any imbalance in gait or pressure on the foot.

Wearing comfortable footwear with a soft and flexible base.

Paring – Paring is a manual removal technique used to reduce the thickness of corns and calluses. It is a safe and effective non-surgical method performed by a dermatologist to instantly relieve pain and discomfort.

Topical application of moisturizers containing ingredients like lactic acid, salicylic acid and urea exfoliates the thick skin and keeps the feet soft and supple.

What are Warts?

A wart is a small, rough skin growth caused by the Human PapillomaVirus (HPV). Warts can appear anywhere on the body.

They are contagious and spread through direct contact with infected skin or surfaces. Generally through skin cuts or abrasions, viruses gain entry and begin to proliferate. Walking barefoot, sharing personal items and a constant moist surface(eg, due to increased sweating) increase the risk of infection.

What’s the treatment of warts ?

Antiviral creams, mild acids for topical application.

Cryotherapy is a quick and effective treatment for warts that involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen(-196°C). This causes the wart tissue to die and fall off over time. It is commonly used for common warts, plantar warts, and flat warts. Some warts may need multiple sessions (typically 1–3 weeks apart) for complete removal.
